Three Express Entry Draws Were Held by IRCC in the Third Week of October

Three Express Entry draws were held by IRCC in the third week of October, respectively on October 24, October 25, and October 26.

The first draw was a Provincial Nominee Program-only draw on October 24 in which 1548 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 776 were invited. 600 additional points are automatically received by Express Entry candidates who are also nominated by the province, this is why the minimum CRS score for Provincial Nominee Program candidates is higher than average.

300 candidates were invited to the second draw which was held on October 25. It was a category-based selection draw for those who demonstrate French speaking proficiency. A minimum cut-off CRS score of 486 was needed in this category.

3600 invitations were issued by IRCC on October 26. Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 431 to be invited in this category-based selection draw for healthcare occupations.

No Requirement of Upfront Medical Examination for Express Entry Candidates Anymore

Express Entry candidates do not have to get an upfront medical examination anymore, before submitting their permanent resident application to IRCC as of October 1, this year.

A medical examination is still mandatory but candidates may now submit a blank document in the upload field of the Express Entry profile builder. Further instructions will be sent by IRCC regarding your medical exams later. Those who are already living in Canada or already completed an IME as part of a different application do not need to complete a second IME.

What is Express Entry and Category-Based Selection?

The application management system that oversees the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is known as Express Entry. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used for the evaluation of the candidates in these programs. Candidates are ranked on the basis of their human capital attributes such as age, work experience, language proficiency, qualification, and occupation.

Every attribute is assigned a score and all scores are totaled up to a possible maximum of 1200 after combining. Rarely any candidates can score this high and minimum CRS cut-off scores range between 350 and 550 on an average. Candidates with the highest scores are most likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR status.

CRS score was not a major factor in issuing ITAs when IRCC introduced new categories earlier this year. In June 2022, a new law was passed which gives the immigration minister the authority to invite candidates who meet an economic need in Canada or help promote the French language.

Candidates have been invited through category-based selection draws 10 times since June, summing up to 10,000 ITAs so far. The candidates who were invited were already in the Express Entry pool.Want to know more about the Express Entry immigration landscape in Canada? Keep track with Canada Immigration News.
