4,000 ITAs Issued by IRCC to Canadian Experience Class Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) from a recent Express Entry draw; such candidates must have a minimum CRS score of 509 to be eligible for this draw.

This draw forms the third draw held this month. The draw follows two earlier draws where 911 candidates were invited under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and 1,000 were invited in a category-based draw for French-language proficiency.

Today’s draw is the largest CEC-exclusive draw since July 31, when 5,000 ITAs were released. The CRS cut-off score for this round was somewhat higher than the draw that occurred on August 27, which had a minimum of 507.

Overview of Express Entry

Express Entry is an online application management system, in use since 2015, for managing applications for permanent resident status in three of Canada’s most important economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Candidates are ranked under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) where it has awarded points under various factors such as language ability, education, work experience, age, and occupation. Extra points are awarded for having a sibling in Canada, to apply with a spouse or partner, or earn high scores on both tests of English and French. Only the best candidates have the highest scores who are then invited to apply for permanent residence.

Introduction of Category-Based Selection

Category-based selection draws were first used in 2022 by IRCC in order to opt for candidates on merit from certain criteria, such as work experience or language ability. Among them, there are six main categories chosen, out of which are the following:

  • Health Care
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and agri-food
  • French language ability

These six categories have been chosen based on labor market needs and help in achieving the demographic goals for the settlement of French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec.

Once a candidate gets an ITA, that means within 60 days, he will submit his final application with IRCC. The department has targeted six months to process finalized Express Entry applications.
