Through the Provincial Nomination Programs, 5 provinces have issued nominations in recent week namely Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Alberta.
Candidates are invited to most provinces through Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs). Economic Immigration candidates who are most likely to integrate easily into the provincial and contribute to the labour force are selected by provincial governments through these programs. A specific number of invitations are allocated to the provinces that they can use to target newcomers. Through the PNP, the immigration levels plan has a target of admitting 105,000 new permanent residents to Canada for 2023.
Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) is not used by Quebec. The provincial government is allowed to select economic immigrants who wish to settle in a province because of its unique agreement with the federal government.
883 candidates were invited to Ontario combined through the Ph.D. candidate stream and Master’s Graduate stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). On April 4, both draws were held. With a minimum cut-off score of 52 and above, 772 candidates were invited through the Master’s Graduate stream.
A score of 48 is needed by 131 Ph.D. Graduate stream candidates. For Ph.D. candidates, this was the first draw of 2023. To support doubling the number of skilled immigrants, investing an additional $ 25 million over three years ago is recently announced by Ontario. Along with other IT updates, this investment will speed up processing and enhancing security as stated by Province.
Through the British Columbia PNP, 175 candidates were invited to the province on April 4. 175 were invited in a general draw of these which means no specific occupation was targeted. There were candidates in International Graduates streams with minimum SIRS scores of 103, Skilled Worker streams with minimum SIRS score of 103, and Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled candidates with minimum SIRS scores of 85.
The provinces also had two targeted draws, i.e., 6 healthcare workers from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, including Express Entry category with scores of at least 60 points and 17 early childhood educators with scores of at least 60 points.
On April 4, New Brunswick posted March draw results for the NB PNP. 186 candidates were invited in total, 74 through the NB Occupations-In-Demand Connection, 70 through the NB Employment Connection, and 42 through the NB Student Connection.
A 67% increase in the PNP allocation for 2023 is recently announced by the province. The immigration ministers endorsed a multi-year PNP program proposed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in the meeting of the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI). Provinces only received their allocations one at a time until this point.
619 candidates received invitations from Quebec through the Quebec Regular Skilled Workers Program on March 30. Invitations were obtained by candidates who met the criteria of specific TEER NOC codes across several in-demand sectors. A minimum score of 578 is required by the candidate as well as a valid job offer outside the territory of Communuat’e m’etropolitaine de Montr’eal.
150 candidates were invited through the Express Entry stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) on March 30, and results have been made available recently. In addition to meeting the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score of 372, candidates required a family connection and to hold a primary occupation in demand.
