648 ITAs Issued by IRCC in Recent PNP-Specific Express Entry Draw

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently issued invitations to apply (ITAs) in a new Express Entry draw.

A total of 648 invitations were sent out, specifically targeting candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). To be eligible in this draw, applicants needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 791.

This draw is the second PNP-focused one this month. The previous draw, held on October 7, invited 1,613 candidates who needed a minimum CRS score of 743.

In recent months, IRCC has followed a pattern of holding multiple Express Entry draws every two weeks, including at least one that is PNP-specific. Since May 30, IRCC has issued 12,815 ITAs in these types of draws. This reflects the department’s focus on increasing invitations for candidates who are already living and working in Canada as temporary residents. The strategy aims to reduce the number of temporary residents while meeting the country’s goals for permanent residents, as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan.

The next Immigration Levels Plan, covering the years 2025-2027, is expected to be released by November 1. For 2024, the plan targeted 110,770 new permanent residents though it has not yet been confirmed whether that goal has been met. Those receiving ITAs in the latter part of the year are more likely to be admitted in 2025, as IRCC’s standard processing time for Express Entry applications is six months.

Understanding Express Entry

Express Entry is a system used to manage applications for three major Canadian economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). The system uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate candidates based on factors like age, education, work experience, and language skills, selecting those who can best address Canada’s labor market needs.

CRS scores in PNP draws are often higher because candidates who receive a provincial nomination automatically gain an additional 600 points. Candidates can also receive points for factors such as having family members in Canada or applying with a spouse or partner. Those with the highest CRS scores are the most likely to receive an ITA in future draws.
