Express Entry Draw Sees More Invitations for PNP Candidates

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just held a new round of invitations under the Express Entry system, inviting 646 candidates through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates needed to have a minimum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score of 750 and had to have submitted their Express Entry profile before 5:41 PM UTC on July 23, 2024.

This latest draw is the third one this month, following another PNP draw on February 4, which sent out 455 invitations, and a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw on February 5, where 4,000 ITAs were issued.

Since the beginning of 2025, IRCC has focused its Express Entry draws on PNP and CEC candidates. The volume of invitations for CEC applicants has returned to the higher numbers typically seen in 2024, signaling a shift in draw trends.

Notably, the recent draws have excluded category-based invitations for French speakers, healthcare professionals, and tradespeople, groups that have been prioritized in the Express Entry system this year. As part of the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan, IRCC has allocated 41,700 permanent resident spaces for these categories in 2025.

Understanding Express Entry Pool with a Low CRS Score?

If you’re concerned about entering the Express Entry pool with a low CRS score, you might wonder if it’s worth it. The answer is generally yes, and here’s why:

  • CRS Score Fluctuations: CRS scores can be unpredictable. What may seem like a low score now might be sufficient for future draws. If you’re out of the pool, you won’t benefit from these fluctuations.
  • Tie-Break Rule: Along with the CRS score, candidates must have submitted their profile by the specific date and time set by the IRCC. Early entry into the pool means you’re in the running for a potential ITA if there’s a tie at the cut-off score.
  • Score Improvements: Being in the pool gives you the chance to improve your CRS score. If you increase your language scores, gain more work experience, or finish a new qualification, your score can be updated in real-time, without needing to resubmit your profile.
  • Access to Other Immigration Programs: While in the Express Entry pool, you can also be considered for other immigration programs, such as provincial nominee streams and regional pilot programs. This gives you multiple pathways to immigration, increasing your chances of receiving an ITA.

In conclusion, even with a lower CRS score, being in the Express Entry pool can improve your chances of securing permanent residency in Canada. It’s always worth entering the pool, especially since you can continue to enhance your eligibility as you go.
