First ever Express Entry STEM draw is held by IRCC in the second round of invitations this week. This time, it was for candidates eligible for STEM occupations.
Invitations were sent to 500 candidates who required a minimum CRS score of 486. First-ever category-based selection Express Entry draw for those in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) was about to take place this week as announced by IRCC.
Another round of invitations was also confirmed by IRCC in which 1,500 healthcare workers will be invited to apply for permanent residence. With a minimum CRS score of 476, which is the lowest CRS score so far in 2023, the most recent category-based draw was held last week on June 28.
700 Candidates Were Invited by IRCC in an All Program Express Entry Draw with a cut-off CRS score of 511 in its surprise draw on July 4. An all-program Express Entry draw is the draw that considers candidates from Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSTP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
The objective of Canada is to meet the growing demand for talent and fill key positions that contribute to the economic growth and technological advancement of the nation. It can be done by prioritizing the invitation of skilled newcomers with STEM experience as stated by IRCC, which is why New Selection Categories are Announced for Express Entry Candidates.
Under the STEM draw, eligible occupations include architects, business system specialists, civil engineers, computer engineers, computer systems developers, cyber security specialists, data scientists, database analysts, electrical engineers, engineering managers, information systems specialists, land surveyors, landscape architects, mathematicians, metallurgical and materials engineers, natural and applied science policy researchers, urban and land use planners, web designers, and web developers.
A new category-based selection criteria for Express Entry draws was finalized by IRCC as announced by Sean Fraser, Immigration Minister of Canada on May 31. After discussions with IRCC partners and stakeholders as well as provincial and territorial governments, the categories were chosen based on labour market projections. Healthcare, STEM professions, transport, agriculture and agri-food, strong French-language proficiency, and trades are the categories that were chosen.
