This week, the majority of invitations were issued and the most recent round took place yesterday on July 6 in which 1,500 Express Entry Candidates in the Third Round of Category Based Draw. Invitation to French-Speakers

The only selection-based criteria that do not use work experience as the key attribute for the six new selection categories is strong French-speaking abilities.

The promotion of the French Language outside of Quebec has been mandated by the immigration minister of Canada. The objective of Canada is to support economic growth through Francophone immigration outside of Quebec by prioritizing the invitation of French-speaking newcomers as stated by IRCC in a release while announcing the draw for French-speaking Express Entry candidates.

Category-Based Selection

On May 31, new categories were announced by the immigration minister of Canada for category-based selection. A law passed last June due to which the immigration minister of Canada has the authority to invite economic immigration candidates based on a specific attribute rather than their overall Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, the new categories were expected after this announcement.

Healthcare, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions, transport, agriculture and agri-food, trades such as carpenters and plumbers, and strong French-language proficiency were the categories for 2023 which were chosen after discussions with provincial and territorial governments as well as IRCC partners and stakeholders.

These categories may change in 2024 as they will be reviewed each year in IRCC’s presentation to the parliament. Canada hopes to admit up to 82,880 newcomers according to the Immigration Level Plans 2023-2025 through Express Entry by the end of 2025.
