No Requirement for Upfront Medical Examination for Express Entry PR

There is no requirement for upfront medical examination for Express Entry PR as of 1st October.

One of the primary requirements for permanent residence is an immigrant medical exam (IME). Immigrant medical exam is a crucial part of Canada PR Process from India. You may now upload a blank document in the upload field of the Express Entry profile Builder when submitting your application if you have never completed an IME. Further instructions will be sent to you by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on when to get your medical exam.

You do not need to complete another IME when you apply for permanent residence if you have already completed an IME as part of the previous application, to work or study, and are currently living in Canada.

About the IME

You must have an IME if you apply for permanent residence. Even if your family members are not accompanying you to Canada, they must also have a medical exam. There is a list of physicians approved by IRCC, known as panel physicians. You must see a doctor from that list as your doctor cannot do the medical exam.

The final decision about your medical exam is made by IRCC, not the panel physician. If your health is a danger to Canada’s public health or safety or if it would cause too much demand on health or social services in Canada, IRCC will not approve a permanent residence application. A medical examination certificate is on the List of Documents Required for Canada PR from India.

You must bring the following documents when you go to your appointment for the medical exam:

•         Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses

•         Proper identification

•         Current medication list

•         Any medical reports or test results for any previous or existing medical conditions

•         Medical report form, if you do not get an upfront medical exam

•         4 recent photographs, if the panel physician does not use e Medical

Information of previous or existing medical conditions will be needed in the medical history questionnaire consisting in the medical exam. There may also be a physical exam you need to go through, and you may be asked to do chest X-rays and other laboratory tests depending on your age.

When you are there, you must pay for all the fees related to medical exam. The physical will send you the results, once after receiving them, and will provide you with a document confirming that you had a medical exam.

The validity of your medical exam results is 12 months only. You may need to have another exam if you don’t come to Canada as a permanent resident within that time.Canada Immigration News will provide you latest updates regarding the medical examination and other requirements for the Express Entry.
