This week, three Canadian provinces issued Invitations to Apply to applicants to submit an application for their individual Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). The PNP, implemented in 1998, spreads the positive impact of immigration evenly across Canada by sharing immigration powers with the federal government and provinces or territories. In fact, it is still one of the main means through which skilled workers can immigrate to the country.
Although the nomination from a province is an important step, permanent residency is not automatically granted. Provincial nominees are required to apply through IRCC for permanent residency. However, a nomination from the provinces does help a candidate’s application, particularly if the candidate of interest is under the Express Entry system, for it will put an additional 600 points to his or her CRS score, which is sure to leave little to no chance of not getting an ITA in the following Express Entry draw.
On October 8, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to candidates under its Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. A total of 885 invitations were issued to candidates whose occupations fall under skilled trades categories whose scores must be at least 48.
Ontario also held a targeted draw for the same stream that issued 841 invitations to other priority occupations under which applicants had to have a minimum score of 52 and valid job offer in priority occupation. Detailed lists of these occupations, organized by NOC codes.
British Columbia Extended over 173 invitations on October 8 to applicants under the Provincial Nominee Program through the Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams:
Draw type | Minimum score | Number of invitations |
Childcare | 83 | 44 |
Construction | 89 | 25 |
Healthcare | 99 | 21 |
Tech | 116 | 83 |
Veterinary care | 80 | <5 |
On October 10, Manitoba made three separate drawings under its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Skilled Worker in Manitoba candidates with post-secondary education were included in the very first draw. From the respective pool, 82 invitations were issued, but they required a minimum of 845 points.
The second draw included 114 candidates for International Education.
The third round was held under the Skilled Worker Overseas stream, where all 38 candidates were invited. Candidates need to score a minimum of 711 and should have been drawn under the MPNP under a “Strategic Recruitment Initiative.”
