Work Permit to PR Canada
For foreign nationals, it is possible to first come to Canada on a temporary work permit and later apply for permanent residency in Canada. There are four main ways for the work permit to PR Canada which candidates need to know about.
Six immigration programs through which temporary foreign nationals can apply to start their journey of work permit to PR Canada are:
1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
You may be eligible to apply for your permanent residency under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) if you are working with a Canadian employer on a temporary and the employer has made you an offer of permanent employment. It is required for temporary workers to meet necessary points under the Foreign Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). The applicant’s age, education, language skills, job offer, and adaptability are the factors on which points are awarded. It can take up to 12-18 months for the completion of the process.
2. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
To apply under the Canadian Experience Class program, temporary workers in skilled positions can use their work experience in Canada. For temporary workers who do not meet the points required for Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), this is a very popular option.
Proof of completion of post-secondary education from a Canadian institute or at least 2 years of work experience is required for applicants under the CEC. Before applying for Canadian permanent residency, applicants who qualify under CEC must meet one of the requirements.
3. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
Work permit to Canada PR journey is easier on this path. Almost every province operates its provincial nominee program that permits provinces to nominate foreign nationals so that they can apply for permanent residency to Canada. Applicants who apply under a particular provincial nominee program must be willing to live in the particular province.
For example, candidates applying for Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program must intend to reside in Manitoba province. The several options and streams available in every province can vary greatly however programs often resemble those programs at the federal level. It can take up to 12-18 months for applications for permanent residency under a provincial nominee program to approve.
4. Quebec Experience Class (QEC)
Quebec Experience Class is also one of the ways for a work permit holder to get Canada PR. It is almost similar to Canadian Experience Class (CEC), but there are some additional requirements under the QEC:
• They must speak French at an intermediate level.
• Applications under the QEC must have worked in Quebec in a skilled position for at least 1 year
Successful applicants will be provided a Quebec Selection Certificate by the Quebec province, permitting them to apply for their permanent residence status.
As long as requirements are met, foreign nationals in Canada with a Working Holiday Visa may also apply for permanent residence through QEC. This option for working holiday workers uniquely applies to the Quebec Experience Class. It can take up to 1 year or less for the journey of work permit to PR Canada.
5. HealthCare Worker Stream
It is another path for work permit to PR Canada. Early childhood educators and Healthcare workers are prioritized and expected to fill the gaps in the labour market.
6. Essential Worker Stream
For TR to PR work permits, this stream is a new bridging open work permit, which allows them to work in Canada while waiting for their application to process.
Conditions on the Work Permit
Employer-specific work permit pertains to a single employer while the open work permit can come with certain conditions. These include duration, type, and places you are eligible to work. Work permits are only temporary and cannot be used for Canadian immigration, that’s why work permit to PR Canada status journey is necessary for every work permit holder.
